Realizing the unique character of the Quinta da Faísca space and the opportunity it represents to authentically experience the unique territory that is the Douro
Birth of Casa Agrícola, whose original owners were Manuel João Maria Arião (born in Ourense, Galicia) and Theresa de Jesus de Sampaio (born in Favaios), dedicated to agricultural management and the wine trade (among others, the Sandeman brand) . The couple had five children, but only D. Mariana de Sampaio Arião married and continued the family. After the death of Manuel João Maria Arião, his daughter, D. Maria da Glória de Sampaio Arião, became responsible for managing the family's assets.
1885
Purchase of the first installment that would give rise to Quinta da Faísca by D. Maria da Glória de Sampaio Arião. Quinta da Faísca resulted from the combination of 32 articles. His niece Maria da Conceição Pinto Sampaio, daughter of D. Mariana de Sampaio Arião, would marry, years later, Manuel Carvalho de Matos and it would be the Carvalho de Matos family that would continue the wine exploration until the sale of Quinta da Faísca, in 2000.
Construction of the cellar, which had the typical characteristics of a cellar for the production of Port wine. On the upper floor, there were the oil presses (unique due to their trapezoidal shape) and, on the lower floor, the aging barrels.
2000
Acquisition of Quinta da Faísca by the Sousa Lopes family. Manuel de Sousa Lopes has been a button manufacturer from the North of Portugal since the 1920s, but he considers agriculture and wine to be his true passion. Being the owner of other farms in the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, he saw the following generations embrace his passion and, with the acquisition of Quinta da Faísca, dedicate themselves with enthusiasm to this new project of making wines on a farm in the Douro.
Reconversion of the vineyards, making them mechanized and with varieties more suitable for the wines intended to be produced.
2004
Restoration and modernization of the cellar. The traditional use of mills and the force of gravity during the harvest was maintained, combining them with modernization, by replacing the barrels with stainless steel vats.
2013
Construction of the tasting area and storage of wine casks/stock.
2015
Quinta da Faísca wins the national Best of Wine Tourism award in the architecture and landscape category.
2022
Opening of Casas da Faísca, offering visitors the possibility of staying at Quinta da Faísca and thus marking the beginning of a new phase in its wine tourism project.
