Alto Douro Wine Region
In 1756, the Douro Demarcated Region became one of the first delimited and regulated wine-growing regions in the world. The Alto Douro Wine Region, a UNESCO world heritage site since 2001 , is an area particularly representative of its unique landscape, which combines the monumental and imposing nature of the steep slopes that flank the Douro River with the ancestral and continuous action of Man to cultivate vineyards. . Alijó
Alijó is the seat of a municipality that extends north from the right bank of the Douro River. It is located in a vast area of Castro culture and suffered, like many other locations in the current municipality, the vicissitudes resulting from Romanization and Moorish occupation. Throughout the municipality, there are various manifestations of its ancient settlement, from hillforts and cave paintings to remains of Roman roads. A walk through the town center will also take you to see several points of interest, including the City Council building (part of it built in the 18th century and another part in the 19th century), the pillory, the old Casa dos Távoras, the Solar dos Viscondes de Alijó, the 18th century main church, the fountain and the monumental Plátano, planted in 1856 and considered a National Monument. Favaios
Favaios is a historic village located in the heart of the Douro Demarcated Region and included in the Wine Villages Route. Located on a plateau covered in vineyards that stretch as far as the eye can see, it has a picturesque environment and one of the most beautiful surroundings in Portugal. Land of bread and wine, the famous Moscatel de Favaios has been produced here since the 18th century, derived from the Moscatel Galego Branco variety. We suggest a visit to the Adega Cooperativa de Favaios, one of the pillars of the community, and the Bread and Wine Museum, housed in a building dating from the 18th century, which dynamically interprets the history of wine and bread in Favaios. Don't forget to try the delicious bread and the wonderful meat ball produced in one of its famous bakeries and enjoy one of the most stunning views of the region from the Santa Bárbara viewpoint.

The town of Pinhão, located at the confluence between the Pinhão River and the Douro River, is considered the geographic center of the Douro Demarcated Region. All around, you can admire the spectacular terraces built by man over centuries to cultivate vineyards. Take the opportunity to visit the wine farms that produce Port Wine or take a boat trip along the Douro River, admiring the beauty of the mountains full of vineyards that rise on its banks. Don't forget to visit the Railway Station building, built at the end of the 19th century.
